AOTAOREC Recorder

Product support

Setup, recording, file transfer, storage, firmware, and app troubleshooting for the AOTAOREC recorder and companion app.

Device features require a compatible AOTAOREC recorder. Keep the recorder nearby during setup and file transfer, and use the app version offered for your phone.

Quick start

Read or download the complete H69 user guide (PDF).

  1. Charge the recorder before first use. The light stays red while charging and turns off when the battery is full.
  2. Move the power switch on the side of the recorder to ON. Bluetooth turns on automatically at power-on, so no pairing button is needed.
  3. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone (Android 11 and earlier also needs the system Location switch), install the free AOTAOREC Recorder app, and allow the nearby-device permission it asks for.
  4. Open the app, tap the connection control at the top, and select your recorder by its short ID. The first time, your phone shows a system pairing request: tap Pair.
  5. Use Recordings to browse and download files, or Settings to change supported recorder options.

Frequently asked questions

The recorder does not appear, or it will not connect
  1. Confirm the recorder is powered on: move the power switch on the side of the recorder to ON. Bluetooth is on by default at power-on.
  2. Confirm Bluetooth has not been switched off: hold the main button for about two seconds to toggle it. A short green light means on, a short red light means off.
  3. Confirm phone Bluetooth is enabled. On Android 11 and earlier, turn on the phone's system Location switch; those versions require it before an app can scan for nearby Bluetooth devices.
  4. Keep the phone close to the recorder, then reopen the device list.
  5. To use another recorder, select it directly. You do not need to disconnect first.
  6. If a previous phone still holds the pairing, hold the recorder's main button for about eight seconds to clear saved phone links and restore default settings. The recorder restarts and recordings are kept.
iPhone shows the recorder but will not connect
  1. The iPhone keeps an old Bluetooth pairing after the recorder has deleted it. Open Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the ⓘ button next to AOTAOREC-H69 and choose Forget This Device.
  3. Reopen AOTAOREC and connect again. The iPhone will ask to pair once more.
  4. Reinstalling the app does not clear this pairing. The recorder itself is not damaged.
Continuous and voice-activated recording

Continuous mode keeps every sound until you stop recording. Voice-activated mode pauses during quiet periods and starts after sound stays above the selected sensitivity for a short moment, so silent hours do not fill the built-in storage. Very soft or brief words may not start it. If speech sounds broken or sentence beginnings are missing, raise the sensitivity, move the recorder closer, or use Continuous mode.

The recording is too quiet, noisy, or distorted

Point the microphone opening toward the speakers and keep the recorder away from phones, chargers, computers, air conditioners, and fluorescent lights when possible. Start with the default sound settings. Raise microphone sensitivity one step for distant voices, or lower it when nearby speech crackles or sounds harsh. Noise reduction is applied to the saved recording; AI voice enhancement is a separate playback step inside the app.

How long can it record, and how much fits in memory

How long you can record depends on the battery, sound conditions, and quality setting. A full charge provides about 80 hours of continuous recording. Voice-Activated recording can last up to about 100 hours because it pauses during quiet periods; actual battery life varies with the sound environment and use.

Estimated storage hours by bitrate and built-in capacity (4 / 8 / 16 / 32 GB):

QualityBitrate4 GB8 GB16 GB32 GB
Space Saver32 kbps~277 hr~555 hr~1,109 hr~2,218 hr
Standard (default)64 kbps~139 hr~277 hr~555 hr~1,109 hr
High96 kbps~92 hr~185 hr~370 hr~739 hr
Highest128 kbps~69 hr~139 hr~277 hr~554 hr

Actual storage time varies slightly. Voice-Activated is the factory recording mode. Storage is installed at the factory and is not user-replaceable. The app offers 30, 60, 90, or 120-minute file segments.

Download a recording

Open Recordings and choose Recorder. A new file appears after the recorder closes it, so stop recording and refresh if the latest file is not shown yet. Keep the phone close during transfer. On Android, leave AOTAOREC transfer notifications enabled so an automatic batch can continue after the screen locks; you can stop the current file or the whole batch at any time. Downloaded copies stay on the phone after the recorder disconnects.

Play, share, delete, or import recordings

Download a recorder file before playing, sharing, transcribing, or using AI voice enhancement. Deleting a phone copy moves it to the Recycle Bin; deleting a file under Recorder removes that recorder copy and cannot be undone. For cable transfer, open Recordings > USB. Android uses a data-capable USB OTG cable; iPhone uses the system Files picker when iOS supports the connected drive and adapter. USB import copies files to the phone and never writes back to the recorder.

USB file access can be switched off in Settings: with it off, the recorder's storage stays hidden, so a computer or an OTG phone cannot read your recordings.
Use AI voice enhancement, or turn a recording into text

Download and open the recording first. Playback starts in Original mode; Gentle, Standard, and Strong process a phone copy without changing the original file. If quiet words become less clear, use Original or a lighter level. Offline transcription runs entirely on the phone: English uses Parakeet 110M, and other languages use Whisper multilingual models. Recording language is separate from the app language. Audio is not uploaded for these features, but results can still contain mistakes, especially with quiet, mixed-language, or overlapping speech.

Tiers: Automatic, Fast, Standard and High accuracy use Parakeet (about 1-2 minutes per hour of audio); Ultimate accuracy uses Qwen3-ASR, the most accurate but about 20 times slower. Transcripts stay on the phone under Files, then the menu, then Offline transcription.
Live transcription is a draft, not the final transcript

Live transcription shows a quick running draft in English, Spanish, French, or German on supported iPhone and Android phones while recorder audio is active. Stopping it does not stop recording. For a more complete result, finish and download the recording, then run offline transcription on that file. Live transcription and offline transcription are different features and can disagree.

Use Listen While Recording

Connect the recorder and start Listen While Recording from the Record screen. Accept the phone pairing request the first time. You can lock the screen or switch apps: listening keeps running in the background as audio playback, while live transcription pauses in the background and resumes automatically when you come back. In Voice-Activated mode the phone stays silent while the recorder waits for sound. The recording is saved on the recorder; AOTAOREC does not separately save or upload the monitoring audio. Use this feature only where you have permission to listen and record.

In the background it keeps running for up to 60 minutes; it also stops after 30 seconds without audio or below 10% battery.
Timed recording does not start

Set the power-on time, power-off time, and repeat option first, then enable timed recording and wait for confirmation. Move the recorder's power switch to OFF afterwards: manually powering the recorder on cancels the pending schedule. The recorder clock must be correct before the schedule can run.

Internal storage is full or unavailable
  1. Back up every readable recording in the app or on a computer before attempting any repair.
  2. Stop recording, reconnect the recorder, and refresh the file list once.
  3. If a computer or an OTG phone cannot open the storage, enable USB File Access and try a direct USB port with another cable.
  4. Run Check and Recover Internal Storage before formatting. It retries access without deleting recordings.
  5. Format only after a backup, and only while recording, downloads, listening, and updates are stopped. Formatting permanently erases all recordings.
  6. If formatting fails or the storage stays unavailable, stop using the recorder and contact support. Storage is factory-installed and is not user-replaceable; do not open the recorder.
Name, switch, or remove a recorder

Settings can save a local name for each recorder. Use the connection button at the top to switch directly; the short ID still identifies nearby devices. A recorder keeps one secure app link at a time. Remove Recorder clears the link and the local name but keeps recordings and recording settings. If the original phone is unavailable, hold the recorder's main button for about eight seconds to restore settings and clear saved phone links; recordings are kept.

Reset the recorder to factory settings
  1. Reset recording settings in the app (Settings > Reset recording settings) restores record mode, quality, segment length, timed recording and the indicator. Recordings and the phone link are kept.
  2. Factory reset (Settings > Device controls > Factory reset) clears those settings and unlinks this phone. Recordings on the recorder are kept unless you tick the option to delete them, and the Bluetooth pairing saved by the phone system is not removed.
  3. With no phone at hand, hold the recorder main button for about eight seconds. The recorder clears the saved phone link, restores its settings and restarts, and recordings are kept.
  4. After a factory reset, connect the recorder again and link this phone. To erase every recording on the recorder as well, use Format storage (Settings > Device controls).
Button and indicator controls

Main button

  • Press once: show battery status. The light blinks red 1 to 4 times: 1 blink at 25% or below, 2 at 50% or below, 3 at 75% or below, and 4 above 75%.
  • Press twice: switch between Continuous and Voice-Activated recording. While recording, the recorder stops and immediately continues in the new mode.
  • Press three times: turn the recording indicator light on or off. Charging, connection, and fault indications are not affected.
  • Hold about two seconds: turn the phone connection (Bluetooth) on or off. A short green light means on, a short red light means off.
  • Hold about eight seconds: clear saved phone pairings and restore default settings. The recorder then restarts. Recording files are kept.

Power switch (on the side of the recorder)

  • ON: power on and start recording in the current mode.
  • OFF: stop recording and power off.
  • Timed recording: set the schedule in the app, then move the switch to OFF. The recorder wakes itself at the scheduled time and powers off again when the session ends. Moving the switch back to ON during a timed recording continues as a normal power-on recording; moving it to OFF again stops recording and powers off.

Update recorder firmware safely

Open Settings > Firmware Update and install only an update that AOTAOREC offers for the connected recorder. Charge the recorder and stop recording, downloads, USB access, and Listen While Recording first. Keep the phone nearby and do not close the app or power off the recorder during installation. The page shows unavailable when the phone or recorder does not support the verified update path. Never install a package received by email, chat, or from an unknown website.
